Exams

There will be two in-class midterm exams plus a scheduled final exam. There will also be quizzes every Friday except the first week of classes. The quizzes will be during the first five minutes of class. No make-ups will be allowed (so please don't ask!!), but the two lowest scores will be dropped to make up for illness or other absences.

• Midterm exams:
  • Midterm examination 1: Wednesday, October 4, in lab.
  • Midterm examination 2: Wednesday, November 8, in lab.

  The midterms will be given during your lab period in order to allow 75 minutes to work on the exam rather than the 50 minutes available during a class period. We will place sample midterm exams on-line approximately a week before each exam.

  A sample of midterm 1 is available. There are solutions to sample midterm 1, but do not look at them until you have attempted all of the problems! A study guide listing topics to be covered and some sample questions is also available

  The following sample midterm 2 includes questions on material we have not covered. Ignore questions 1.3, 2.2, and 5. There are solutions for it as well. You will need to make your own study guide for this midterm.

• Final examination: Monday, December 11, from 9 a.m. to noon. A sample final exam is available. Don't looks at the solutions until you have tried all the problems. Be aware that version of the course covered C (while we did not). Ignore questions that involve C (or translate them to Java). Here is a link to a much older exam, but one whose coverage is more similar to ours (except it didn't cover as much on parallelism and concurrency).

  While the exam coverage is comprehensive, extra emphasis will be on material since the midterms.
