# A8: Data Collection **Deadline:** Tuesday, November 8, 2022 @ 11:59 pm PT Your assignment this week is to run your user study and collect your data. **Important Note #1** You may not run your user study until you have received official approval from the Pomona College IRB. **Important Note #2** If completing data collection for your study this week does not seem feasible (either because there was a delay with IRB approval, because your study depend on additional implementation and/or design work that will take additional time, because you are unable to schedule all your interviews/focus groups within a 1-week period, or for any other reason), *come talk to me!* I am happy to make adjustments to the deadlines as appropriate on a case-by-case basis. ### Part 1: Getting Ready Before you run your study, you must complete the following steps: 0. Receive official approval for your study from the Pomona College IRB. 1. Read the final, approved IRB protocol on Axiom Mentor and note any changes I made. 2. If you are compensating participants, (1) confirm budget with me, (2) get money in the right place. I *strongly* recommend having me pay for things upfront (e.g., by having me upload money to your Qualtrics account or get you the gift cards you need). If you are compensating participants with gift cards, be sure to also print participant payment receipts for them to sign! 3. Download the final version of the consent form from Axiom Mentor (note: do not use the version you submitted previously, as I might have made some changes prior to submitting it to the IRB) and print hard-copies and/or copy-paste it into Qualtrics. If you are using Qualtrics, make sure that your study is setup so that participants cannot proceed to the rest of the study unless they have checked a box indicating that they consent to the consent form. If you are recruiting for interviews using Prolific, your Prolific task should link to a Qualtrics survey that (1) presents them with the consent form as above and then (2) links to a scheduling app (e.g., Calendly). 4. If you are recruiting through Prolific, confirm that you do not at any point collect any personally-identifying information from your participants. This includes names, email addresses, and IP addresses. In particular, if you are using Qualtrics, make sure that it is not automatically recording IP addresses (Survey Options -> Security -> Anonymize Responses -> On). 4. If you want to make any additional modifications to questions or procedures, or if you are unsure about anything, check-in with me before proceeding. **What to submit** You do not need to submit anything for this part. ### Part 2: Running the study Run your user study! If you have any questions or concerns, pause and talk to me. Otherwise, good luck! **What to submit** Copies of any and all raw data from your user study, including interview transcripts, focus group notes, survey responses, log records, etc. Note that if your dataset includes any identifying information (including, but not limited to, names, email addresses, IP address, etc) you should delete or redact that information before uploading your dataset. If you prefer, you can upload your data to Google Drive or Box and share it with me via that platform instead of via Gradescope. ### Part 3: Feedback Answer the following questions: 1. How long did you spend on this assignment? 2. Any comments or feedback? Things you found interesting? Things you found challenging? Things you found boring? **What to submit** A txt file named `feedback.txt` containing your answers to the feedback questions (you may answer these individually or as a group).
