Arrived in South Korea today. We headed directly for a coastal town to sample their most famous dish,
san nakji, or raw octopus. I had a difficult time at first since the suction cups kept sticking to
the top of my mouth, but once I got past that, it tasted like really fresh squid. Here are a few tips if
you even want to prepare your own:
- Wear gloves when preparing.
- Season with sesame seeds and sesame oil.
- Chew completely before swallowing.

We've been in Taipei for a few days and finally decided to head to the night market for
chou doufu, or stinky tofu. They say you can smell it a block away, and that was pretty accurate.
I won't even go into the details of the fermentation process.
In any case, a funny thing happens when you take a bite – you want another bite, and another!
By the way, we bought a bunch of items at the market at bargain prices:
- A cooling fan that attaches to your head
- Three pairs of foam slippers
- A watch that says "Rolex" on it

We're flying out today. Last night, I tried the
cuy chactado (deep-fried guinea pig) at the
Manos Morenas restaurant
in Lima. I thought it was even better than southern fried chicken!
(Sorry if you're grossed out by the picture.)
